Darlyn Susan Yee is a Los Angeles based fiber and mixed media artist. Her knitted sculpture “Body Cocoon No. 16” was included in California SLAM at the San Luis Obispo Art Museum. Selections from her knitted Body Cocoon Series have also been featured in Metamorphic Metaphors at TAG Gallery in Santa Monica, Enclosed, Encased & Enrobed at Orange County Center for Contemporary Art, and in After Hours at Galéria Z in Bratislava, Slovakia.
Best known for her knotted sculptural artwork, Ms. Yee was included in 100 Artists of the West Coast II from Schiffer Books. She has written the book Macramé Today: Contemporary Knotting Projects to share her passion for knotting. Available now, her book is filled with color images to illustrate the review of basic knotting techniques, helpful hints and ten projects for varying skill levels. Ms. Yee’s knotted artwork was most recently exhibited in the Art of Fiber at the Virginia Weston Besse Gallery, Featherstone Center for the Arts.
Ms. Yee is also an active participant in the Yarn Bombing community of Los Angeles. Her recent temporary public art installations include a “Street Lamp Cozy” in front of the Craft And Folk Art Museum. She knitted “Dancing People” for installation during Yarn Bombing the 18th at the 18th Street Art Center in Santa Monica. In collaboration with Arzu Arda Kosar, Julie Kornblum and Katelyn Dorroh, Ms. Yee installed “The Empathy Project” behind the Union Center for the Arts. To highlight the softer side of graffiti, Ms. Yee and several other members of Yarn Bombing Los Angeles showcased their knit and crochet car covers on the closing weekend of the Art in the Streets exhibition at the Geffen Contemporary at MOCA, and participated in the Trespass Parade, an official opening event for Pacific Standard Time: Art in L.A. 1945-1980.
